The Karnataka state government's Department of Higher Education has partnered with the Azim Premji Foundation to provide scholarships for female students pursuing higher education. The 'Deepika Scholarship' scheme, backed by ₹2,200 crore in financial assistance, was officially launched at a successful ceremony in the city on September 19th by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
The initiative aims to prioritize education and will provide an annual scholarship of ₹30,000 per student until they complete their degree. The scheme is open to female students from 37,000 government schools in the state who have passed their 10th and 12th standard examinations and are enrolling in a degree or professional course this academic year. Azim Premji, the head of the foundation, stated that every child deserves an education and that the foundation is committed to this cause, contributing ₹2,000 crore to the project. During the event, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasized that educating girls leads to an educated society and a stronger state. He stated that thousands of female students will benefit from the scheme, which will help increase the number of women in higher education and empower the fight against social ills.
