The Central Government has declared that Malayalam superstar Mohanlal will be conferred the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award for 2023. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting officially announced that he was selected for this highest honor in recognition of his invaluable contributions to Indian cinema.
The ministry stated on social media that the Government of India is delighted to confer this award to Mohanlal based on the recommendation of the Dada Saheb Phalke Award selection committee. The ministry praised Mohanlal’s cinematic journey as inspirational for future generations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Mohanlal, saying, “Mohanlal ji is a symbol of excellence and versatility. His service to Malayalam cinema and theater over decades is immense. He has deep respect for Kerala’s culture, which he has reflected through his works.”

The Dada Saheb Phalke Award is considered the highest honor in Indian cinema. Established in 1969 in memory of Dada Saheb Phalke, regarded as the father of Indian cinema, this award is given to individuals who have made significant contributions to the film industry.
The award includes ₹10 lakh in cash, a golden lotus, a shawl, and a certificate. Esteemed personalities like Dr. Rajkumar, Satyajit Ray, Raj Kapoor, Lata Mangeshkar, and Asha Bhosle have previously received this honor.
