Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has set a deadline for officials to fill all potholes in Bengaluru by October 31, with an additional allocation of ₹750 crore to be announced for the project. Stated by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar after a high-level meeting on road infrastructure.
Speaking to the media after the meeting at the Chief Minister's residence, 'Kaveri,' Shivakumar said that the CM and he had met with BBMP officials to discuss the city's road conditions. He noted that over 10,000 potholes had been identified with the cooperation of officials, police, and the public. A strict warning has been issued to officials that stern action will be taken if the potholes are not fixed.
The Chief Minister has directed that a separate plan be formulated to repair roads once the monsoon season ends. Police officials have also been instructed to compile a list of potholes and report them. Shivakumar urged the public to bring any potholes to their attention so they can be fixed as soon as possible, attributing the worsening problem to the heavy rains. "Potholes exist in all cities, but only Bengaluru is making headlines. Media in other states is controlled, but in Karnataka, we have given more freedom to the media, so this issue is getting more publicity," Shivakumar said.
He added that the work to fill potholes is happening on a war footing, and while others may play politics over the issue, the government is focused on ensuring smooth traffic flow. So far, more than 7,000 potholes have been filled, and work is underway to fix an additional 5,000. Also Read: "I Stopped Seven Wars Through Trade, Deserve Nobel Peace Prize": Trump's Bold Claim!
