Former MLA Haratalu Halappa's Mother Passes Away: Natural Death in Bengaluru Residence

The body will be available for public viewing at Basaveshwara Nagar in Bengaluru until 8:00 AM tomorrow. The last rites will be performed at Holekoppa village in Sorab taluk on Sunday, family sources confirmed.

Bengaluru, September 21, 2025 – In a somber moment for Karnataka politics, the mother of former minister and BJP leader Haratalu Halappa, Manjamma (94), passed away due to natural causes at the family's residence in Bengaluru on Saturday. The news has deeply affected Halappa and his extended family, drawing condolences from across the political spectrum.

Haratalu Halappa is a prominent member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He won the Assembly elections twice from the Sagar constituency. Additionally, he was appointed Chairman of the MySugars India Limited (MSIL) on July 28, 2020. Halappa served as the Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs in the Karnataka government. In the 2023 Assembly elections, he contested again from Sagar but lost to Congress candidate Gopalakrishna Booluru.

Manjamma, who was blessed with 12 children including Halappa, leaves behind nine sons and three daughters. Her passing marks the end of an era for the family, which has been a pillar of strength for Halappa's political journey.
