On the day following the grand inauguration of Mysuru Dasara 2025, renowned priest Raju of Chamundeshwari Temple passed away due to a heart attack. The temple’s sanctum sanctorum (Garbhagudi) has been temporarily closed to devotees, with only the Utsava Murti (festival idol) available for darshan.

The world-famous Mysuru Dasara began with grandeur, but an unexpected tragedy struck the Chamundeshwari Temple atop Chamundi Hill. Renowned priest Raju, who served at the temple, passed away due to a heart attack. As a result, the temple authorities have temporarily closed the sanctum sanctorum (Garbhagudi), causing inconvenience to devotees seeking darshan.

Due to the priest’s demise, darshan of the main deity is unavailable until tonight. However, arrangements have been made for devotees to have darshan of the Utsava Murti (festival idol). The Mysuru Dasara festivities officially commenced on Monday, but this unfortunate incident occurred the very next day.A somber atmosphere prevails around Chamundi Hill following the priest’s passing. The late priest Raju had been serving as a priest of Lord Shiva at the Chamundeshwari Temple for many years. The temple administration has stated that darshan of the deity will resume for the public after his last rites are performed. During Navratri and Dasara, thousands of devotees visit Chamundi Hill. The temporary closure of the Garbhagudi has caused inconvenience, but the provision for Utsava Murti darshan offers a temporary solution.
