Dr. S.L. Bhyrappa, the eminent Kannada novelist and Saraswati Samman awardee, passed away on September 24, 2025, at the age of 94 due to age-related ailments at Rashtrotthana Hospital in Bengaluru. His iconic works, including Parva, Avarana, Grihabhanga, Vamshavriksha, and Saartha, among 22 others, are timeless treasures of Kannada literature. Honored with awards like the Saraswati Samman, he also applied for prestigious recognitions such as the Padma Bhushan and Jnanpith Award.

Tomorrow (September 26, 2025): Public viewing will be arranged at Kalamandira, Mysuru, in the evening, followed by the cremation in Mysuru.

The family has requested admirers and literature enthusiasts to pay their respects at Ravindra Kalakshetra today. Born in 1931 in Tammasandra, Hassan district, Bhyrappa earned an M.A. from the University of Mysore, served as a lecturer, and retired in 1991. He resided in Kuvempu Nagar, Mysuru.
