A new development has emerged in the Dharmasthala skull case. Although the Supreme Court dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking a reinvestigation of cases from 1995-2004 on May 5, 2023, the team behind Chinnayya has reportedly continued to petition the state government to proceed with the investigation.
The Supreme Court, in its dismissal of the PIL, had stated that such petitions were "useless." The bench of Justices B.V. Nagarathna and Satish Chandra Sharma observed that the petition was not a "Public Interest Litigation" but rather a "Publicity Interest Litigation, Paisa Interest Litigation, Private Interest Litigation, and Political Interest Litigation." The PIL had been filed by advocate K.V. Dhananjaya.
SIT Investigation to Intensify -
The state government is reportedly keen on continuing the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the Dharmasthala skull burial case. It has been decided that the investigation will not be closed until it is fully complete. Instead, SIT chief Pranav Mohanty has been instructed to expedite the probe. The state government has also given a verbal directive to identify those behind the conspiracy.
"Conspiracy was hatched 40 years ago" -
Shashiraj Shetty, a devotee of the Dharmasthala shrine, has filed a complaint with the SIT officers, urging them to investigate those presenting themselves as witnesses to the skull case, as they might be considered accused. Chinnayya himself has admitted that his previous statements were false. However, Shetty's complaint states that many are now coming forward to testify about a conspiracy against Dharmasthala.
According to the complaint, similar conspiracies were attempted 40 years ago. Instead of seeking justice through legal channels, people are resorting to street protests and verbal attacks. The complaint urges the authorities to question the so-called witnesses, as they might be making false claims for personal gain.
