Bengaluru: Rajya Sabha member and Infosys Foundation Chairperson Sudha Murty was targeted by cyber criminals who attempted to defraud her by posing as a Telecom Department official. The scammers claimed that obscene videos were being circulated from her mobile number, attempting to extort personal information through intimidation. On September 5 at 9:40 AM, Sudha Murty received a call from a number displayed as "Telecom Department" on Truecaller. The caller, posing as a Department of Telecommunications (DoT) official, alleged that her mobile number, registered in 2020, was not linked to Aadhaar and was being used to spread obscene videos. Threatening to disconnect her service by noon, the caller demanded personal details. An FIR was registered at the Bengaluru Cyber Crime Police Station under Sections 66(C), 66(D), and 84(C) of the IT Act.
