Upon receiving the honor, Sonu Nigam became emotional, stating: "I have performed at the Lata Mangeshkar Alankar ceremony for three decades. Award Recognizes Contribution to Light Music -

The award was conferred upon the celebrated singer for his significant contributions to the field of light music. Sonu Nigam was presented with the honor at a ceremony celebrating the life of the legendary singer, who was born in Indore on September 28, 1929, and passed away in Mumbai on February 6, 2022.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav praised the award, noting that the unique recognition, named after one of India's greatest singers, is a tribute to the best performances by artists who draw inspiration from Mangeshkar's immeasurable achievements and melodious legacy.

About the Award -

The National Lata Mangeshkar Award was instituted by the Government of Madhya Pradesh in 1984 to recognize distinguished work in the field of light music. It is conferred by the state government's Culture Department and includes a citation and a cash prize. Past recipients include renowned singers like Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle.
