New Delhi: Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra, the first president of the Delhi BJP unit, passed away this morning at AIIMS hospital at the age of 93. He was undergoing treatment for several days, and his demise has left an irreplaceable void in the political sphere.
A five-time Member of Parliament and two-time MLA, Malhotra achieved a historic victory in 1999 by defeating former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in the South Delhi constituency. His contributions to strengthening the BJP in Delhi, from its roots in the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, were immense. He also served as the president of the National Sports Board in 2015. Prime Minister Narendra Modi described Malhotra as a great leader who significantly bolstered the BJP in Delhi. Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva praised his life as a symbol of simplicity and dedication to service. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP President JP Nadda, and several others expressed their condolences.
