The much-awaited socio-educational survey in Karnataka’s capital, Bengaluru, is set to begin after the Dasara festival. The survey, which was delayed in Bengaluru due to a staff shortage, has now received the green signal from the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA). Employees from various departments have been appointed as surveyors and are undergoing training by the GBA.
The GBA has made preparations to launch the survey post-Dasara, with 70 to 80 surveyors assigned to each ward. A total of 17,000 staff members will participate in the survey, with each surveyor tasked with covering 750 households. The GBA aims to complete the survey within 10 to 15 days. However, GBA Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao stated that if the survey is not completed within the stipulated time, it will be extended. He clarified that surveyors with health issues or disabilities can be exempted upon submission of appropriate documentation. Rao also warned that strict action will be taken against staff who are absent without valid reasons. With the Election Commission also requiring staff for its operations, there is a possibility of further staff shortages for the survey. It remains to be seen whether Bengaluru can complete the survey within the designated timeframe.
