The Karnataka government’s flagship women empowerment initiative, the Shakti Scheme, has been recognized by the International Book of Records and the World Record of Excellence for achieving over 500 crore free bus journeys for women, securing a place in global records.
On this occasion, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy expressed gratitude to women passengers, officials of the four transport corporations, staff, and labor leaders for their contributions to this milestone. A Milestone in Women Empowerment, Launched on June 11, 2023, under the leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the Shakti Scheme provides free bus travel for women across KSRTC, BMTC, NWKRTC, and KKRTC buses.

Recently, Minister Ramalinga Reddy met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to present the certificate of achievement and share the joy of this milestone. He announced on social media that the scheme’s record of over 500 crore free journeys has been officially documented in the Golden Book of World Records.
