'I Love Mohammad' Slogans Spark Clash During Urs Procession in Belagavi

A clash erupted between Hindu and Muslim communities during the Mabusubani Darga Urs procession in Belagavi’s Khadebazaar on Friday night. The incident, triggered by provocative slogans, led to stone pelting and heightened tensions. Police have intervened and are taking action.

On Friday night, a clash broke out between Hindu and Muslim communities during the annual Mabusubani Darga Urs procession in Belagavi’s Khadebazaar area, specifically in Khadak Galli. The incident involved stone pelting on houses, causing panic among residents and highlighting the severity of the situation.

The Urs procession, traditionally held every year, took a contentious turn when it passed through Khadak Galli, a predominantly Marathi-speaking area. During the procession, some youths reportedly raised 'I Love Mohammad' slogans, which provoked objections from local Hindus. This led to stone pelting, with allegations of some individuals brandishing swords and engaging in disruptive behavior.

Typically, the Urs procession passes through Jalgara Galli and Shanivar Koota Galli. However, this time, it proceeded through Khadak Galli without police permission, which is said to have fueled the anger of the local Hindu community.Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase and Deputy Commissioner of Police Narayan Bharmani visited the site to assess the situation.
