Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar was personally included in the ongoing Social, Economic, and Educational Survey, popularly known as the caste census, when enumerators visited his residence in Bengaluru. While the DCM patiently answered many questions, he reportedly grew irritated with the level of detail sought and instructed the officials to simplify the procedure to avoid wasting time and panicking the public.
The survey, which has reached the Bengaluru phase, saw officials and teachers visit the Deputy CM's home to collect data. D.K. Shivakumar confirmed he was surveyed and later shared details on his social media account, indicating his support for a streamlined process. When questioned by the teachers, the DCM, though cooperating, expressed his exhaustion with the long list of queries being asked during a survey conducted by his own state government.
Detailed Questions and the DCM’s Responses -
During his survey, D.K. Shivakumar provided specific details about himself: he listed his birth district as Bengaluru South, his education as M.Com, and instructed the enumerators to record his primary occupation as Agriculture, followed by Self-Employed Public Servant. He confirmed his religion as Hindu and his caste as Vokkaliga Gowda, noting he obtained his caste certificate in school. He mentioned he married at age 31, has not received any government benefits or reservations, and that his traditional occupation is farming. When asked about income, he simply directed them to "put a large slab."
DCM Gets Irritated Over 'Jewelry' Query
The line of questioning hit a roadblock when the surveyors inquired about the presence of jewelry at the residence. The Deputy CM reportedly became stern, stating that the survey should not delve into personal details like that. His wife, Usha Shivakumar, was also subjected to a series of questions.
Concluding the lengthy process, D.K. Shivakumar urged the officials to "Conduct the survey simply" and focus primarily on gathering social and economic information. "You spent an hour at my house," he stated. "Don't waste time and don't panic the public. You should ask for educational and demographic details first."
