Four Indian nationals were killed in a horrific road accident in the southern Italian city of Matera, confirmed the Indian Embassy in Rome on Sunday. The fatal crash occurred late Saturday on the Agri Valley road, specifically in the municipality of Scanzano Jonico, when a seven-seater Renault Scenic vehicle collided with a truck, according to the Italian news agency ANSA.

In addition to the four victims, six other passengers were traveling in the vehicle at the time of the collision. Five of the injured passengers were admitted to the Policoro hospital in Matera. Officials stated that one passenger, who sustained more serious injuries, was airlifted to the San Carlo hospital in Potenza for specialized treatment.
The Indian Embassy in Rome expressed its condolences on social media, stating that it is "in touch with the local Italian authorities for details" and assured that it will provide "all possible consular assistance" to the affected families.
