The incident of stickers being pasted on temples during the ongoing caste survey in Bengaluru has sparked debate. Survey officials even pasted a UHID sticker on the city’s Varadanjaneya Swamy Temple, drawing strong objections from the temple priest and BJP leaders.

Bengaluru: The ongoing Caste Census (Social and Educational Survey) in Karnataka has run into a fresh controversy after a new blunder came to light: survey staff have reportedly affixed enumeration stickers, normally meant for residences, onto a temple. This incident has provoked sharp criticism and raised questions about the accuracy and competence of the survey process.

Temple Receives U-HID Sticker-

The incident occurred at the Varadanjaneya Swamy Temple near Dharmaraya Swamy Temple on SP Road in Bengaluru. Survey personnel pasted a sticker bearing a Unique Household ID (U-HID) number on the temple premises. Temple priest Shivakumar Dikshit expressed strong objection to the action. "Should the Gods also be subjected to a Caste Census? No one resides here. They have done this even to a temple where Anjaneya Swamy resides. How can they conduct a survey if they cannot distinguish between a house and a temple? This is clear negligence by the staff," the priest remarked sarcastically.

BJP Leaders Criticize "Incompetent" Survey -

The incident has provided fresh ammunition for opposition leaders. Several BJP leaders have expressed their dissatisfaction, labeling the survey process as "dull and incompetent." BJP leader B. Y. Vijayendra and Challavadi Narayanaswamy, among others, reportedly voiced severe criticism against the state government's execution of the census.
