Bengaluru, October 7, 2025: In a tragic incident, a teacher engaged in Karnataka’s caste census (Socio-Economic and Educational Survey) passed away due to a heart attack. In response, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced a compensation of ₹20 lakh for the deceased teacher’s family.

Speaking to the media, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah addressed concerns regarding the ongoing caste census (Socio-Economic and Educational Survey) in Karnataka, involving approximately 1.20 lakh teachers and 40,000 other staff members, totaling 1.60 lakh personnel. Following a request from the teachers' association, the government has extended the survey's deadline to October 18, 2025.

Compensation Announcement: CM Siddaramaiah condemned the incident and announced an immediate relief of ₹20 lakh for the family, which includes pension benefits and other entitlements. Background: Each teacher involved in the census is being paid ₹20,000, with a total budget of ₹325 crore allocated for the exercise. However, health concerns among teachers have prompted the government to issue advisories for better care.

Government’s Response: CM Siddaramaiah stated, “We honor the service of our teachers. This census is crucial for social justice, but the government will respond promptly to any tragedy.” Instructions have been issued to the district administration to provide immediate assistance to the family.
