Bengaluru, October 7, 2025: In a tragic incident, a teacher engaged in Karnataka’s caste census (Socio-Economic and Educational Survey) passed away due to a heart attack. In response, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced a compensation of ₹20 lakh for the deceased teacher’s family.
Speaking to the media, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah addressed concerns regarding the ongoing caste census (Socio-Economic and Educational Survey) in Karnataka, involving approximately 1.20 lakh teachers and 40,000 other staff members, totaling 1.60 lakh personnel. Following a request from the teachers' association, the government has extended the survey's deadline to October 18, 2025.

Location and Context: The incident occurred in Chikkaballapura district during the caste census, which has been ongoing from September 22 to October 7, 2025, with 1.85 lakh teachers deployed for the task. Compensation Announcement: CM Siddaramaiah condemned the incident and announced an immediate relief of ₹20 lakh for the family, which includes pension benefits and other entitlements.
