Dakshina Kannada Member of Parliament (MP) Capt. Brijesh Chowta, a BJP leader, has arrived in New York to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Capt. Chowta is part of the first of two multi-party delegations of Indian Members of Parliament participating in the UNGA session, marking a significant step in the revival of India's parliamentary diplomacy.

The first delegation, consisting of approximately 15 members from various political parties, is led by BJP MP P. P. Chaudhary, who is also the Chairperson of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on One Nation One Election. This group is scheduled to attend the session from October 8 to 14.

Other prominent members in the delegation alongside Capt. Brijesh Chowta include Anil Baluni, Dr. Nishikant Dubey, Dr. Medha Vishram Kulkarni, Vamsi Krishna Gaddam, and N. K. A second delegation of 15 MPs, which will also be an all-party group, is slated to travel to New York later this month under the leadership of BJP MP D. Purandeswari.

The participation of Indian MPs in the UN General Assembly is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to revive the practice of parliamentary diplomacy after a gap of nearly two decades. The delegation's aim is to enhance diplomatic relations, represent India in global forums, and promote democratic values as representatives of a parliamentary democracy at the UN.
