Bengaluru Police Ramp Up Social Media Surveillance: 8 Accused Arrested, 37 Cases Registered!

On Thursday, City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh held a meeting at the Commissioner’s office with the Social Media Monitoring Units (IOOs) of all police stations to gather information.

Bengaluru (Oct 10): Over the past year, Bengaluru city police have registered 37 cases and arrested 18 individuals in connection with spreading communal hatred, fake news, and provocative content on social media platforms. On Thursday, City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh held a meeting at the Commissioner’s office with the Social Media Monitoring Units (IOOs) of all police stations to gather information.

Police have been closely monitoring individuals who disrupt societal harmony by spreading communal hatred, fake news, derogatory, and provocative posts on social media. During this surveillance, several provocative posts were identified, and legal action was taken, according to a police statement. Additionally, 41 social media accounts and 19 posts shared by the accused have been removed in connection with these cases. The police have urged the public to verify the authenticity of such posts before commenting or sharing them to maintain societal harmony. They have warned that neglecting this could lead to legal consequences.
