The planned hunger strike by state transport employees has heightened tensions between the workers and the Karnataka government. The protest and Satyagraha are scheduled to take place from October 15 to 19, raising concerns about potential disruptions to public transport services, especially since the government has warned against hindering public services.
Transport employees across all four state corporations (KSRTC, BMTC, NWKRTC, and KKRTC) have once again declared a struggle against the state government, demanding the payment of salary arrears and the fulfilment of various other demands. The employees have called for a hunger strike from tomorrow, October 15, until October 19, starting with a protest at Freedom Park in Bengaluru.
The Joint Action Committee of Transport Workers’ Unions has called for this Satyagraha, pointing out that despite a salary increase being approved, employees have not yet received 38 months of arrears. In response to the planned strike, KSRTC Managing Director Akram Pasha has issued a strict warning to officials. He emphasized that providing service to the public is the corporation's duty and instructed that the Satyagraha should not inconvenience the public.
A stern caution has been issued to employees planning to take leave during the strike period. The MD has instructed concerned officials that leave will be granted only in unavoidable circumstances. "If any employee remains absent without a proper reason, the leave for those four days will be cancelled, and their wages will be deducted," the MD reportedly warned. The development has created uncertainty, and all eyes are on how this situation will unfold.
