Jaisalmer-Jodhpur Highway Bus Tragedy
Rajasthan: A devastating accident occurred on the Jaisalmer-Jodhpur highway in Rajasthan when a private bus caught fire, resulting in a high number of casualties.
Date of Incident: Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
Location: Near Thaiyat village on the Jaisalmer-Jodhpur National Highway, Rajasthan.
Incident: A private AC sleeper bus traveling from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur suddenly burst into flames.
Casualties and Impact
Fatalities: At least 20 people were killed in the tragic incident. (Reports indicate 19 died inside the bus, and one succumbed to injuries en route to Jodhpur hospital).
Injured: Around 15 to 16 passengers sustained critical burn injuries, including women and children, and were immediately rushed for advanced treatment, primarily to Jodhpur.

Rescue and Government Response
The Incident: The fire reportedly broke out in the rear section of the bus shortly after it left Jaisalmer. Though the driver immediately stopped the bus on the roadside, the flames spread rapidly, trapping passengers.

Compensation: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives and announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from the PMNRF for the next of kin of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured.
Official Visits: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma visited the accident site and instructed officials to ensure that the injured receive the best possible medical care.
Due to the severity of the fire, many bodies were burned beyond recognition, and authorities have initiated DNA testing to identify the victims before handing them over to their families.
