The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) has issued directives to use only green firecrackers during the Diwali festival on October 21 and 22, 2025. Firecrackers are permitted only between 8 PM and 10 PM, with a complete ban on bursting firecrackers after 10 PM to curb air and noise pollution.

In view of the Diwali festival, the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board has issued a significant order regarding the use of firecrackers. Emphasizing eco-friendly celebrations, the KSPCB has directed the public to use only green firecrackers, which produce lower emissions and noise levels.

As per the order, bursting firecrackers is prohibited after 10 PM. Additionally, all firecrackers that emit excessive smoke or exceed the permissible decibel levels are banned. The KSPCB has urged the public to cooperate in protecting the environment by adhering to these restrictions and using only green firecrackers during the permitted hours of 8 PM to 10 PM on October 21 and 22. Violators of these regulations will face strict legal action under the Environment Protection Act. To ensure compliance, the KSPCB has issued directives to all district authorities, police departments, and local bodies for rigorous enforcement. The board has also instructed that strict measures be taken against those manufacturing, selling, or storing prohibited firecrackers.

KSPCB official Yashas stated that circulars were sent to various departments at the beginning of October to prevent the production, sale, and storage of banned firecrackers. Legal action, including filing cases, will be initiated against violators.

To raise awareness, schools and colleges are conducting programs to educate students about the importance of green firecrackers and the adverse effects of conventional firecrackers. The primary objective of these measures is to significantly reduce air pollution during the festive season.

To enforce the ban on the sale and storage of prohibited firecrackers, authorities such as municipal corporations, local bodies, district commissioners, the Director General of Police, police commissioners, transport commissioners, and officials from the departments of commerce, animal husbandry, education, urban administration, and fire services have been empowered to take necessary action.
