The excitement of the Deepavali festival in Bengaluru has once again been overshadowed by firecracker-related mishaps, which have become a cause for serious concern.

Minto Eye Hospital has already registered 28 cases, with several victims requiring surgery.Narayana Nethralaya has seen a sharp rise to 75 cases, where over 50 children and more than 20 adults received treatment.

Doctors warn that the chemical substances used in firecrackers can cause permanent damage to the eye's cornea and retina. Young children are particularly vulnerable as they often play with and closely observe firecrackers.

Despite the Police Department enforcing strict controls on the sale and use of firecrackers, the problem persists due to public negligence.
