For years, the Sigma Gang had been active across Bihar, implicated in numerous extortion rackets and contract murders. Ranjan Pathak, in particular, had a Rs 25,000 bounty on his head and was wanted in at least eight serious cases, including murders and organized crime. Reports suggest the gang was plotting a major strike ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, which police believe this operation has thwarted.
