Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh: In a heartbreaking incident early on October 24, 2025, a private passenger bus operated by Kaveri Travels, en route from Hyderabad to Bengaluru, collided with a motorcycle near Chinna Tekuru village in Kurnool district on National Highway 44. The collision sparked a massive fire that engulfed the vehicle, resulting in the deaths of at least 20 passengers who were charred beyond recognition. Reports indicate the bus was carrying around 44 people, with at least 12 others escaping with minor injuries. Rescue operations were swiftly launched, and the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed profound grief over the tragedy in a statement on X, mirroring the user's message: "Extremely saddened by the loss of lives due to a mishap in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. My thoughts are with the affected people and their families during this difficult time. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured."

To provide immediate relief, the Prime Minister approved ex-gratia payments from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF): ₹2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased victim.

₹50,000 to each injured person.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu also conveyed condolences and directed state officials to ensure comprehensive support for the victims' families, including expedited medical care for the injured. State Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy visited the site to oversee relief efforts.

President Droupadi Murmu echoed the sentiments, calling the accident "deeply unfortunate" and offering her prayers for the bereaved families. YSR Congress Party chief and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy urged the government to provide financial aid and quality healthcare to the survivors.
