Kakinada, October 23: TDP (Telugu Desam Party) leader Tatik Narayana Rao, arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl, died by suicide on Wednesday night. He was taken into custody by police on October 22. The incident occurred near Komati Cheruvu on the outskirts of Tuni town around 10:30 PM.
While being transported in police custody to appear before a magistrate, Rao requested a stop to use the restroom. As soon as the police jeep halted, he suddenly jumped into a nearby pond. It was raining at the time, and the accompanying staff had taken shelter under a tree. Despite extensive searches that night, his body was not found. The search resumed in the morning, and his body was eventually recovered, according to a police officer. https://dv7jujfts4bjf.cloudfront.net/Untitled design - 2025-10-24T080142.136.png_2025-10-24T02:32:24.619Z
Police suspect it to be a suicide but have not entirely ruled out the possibility of an accidental fall into the pond. "The accused may have attempted suicide out of remorse for his actions, or it could have been an accidental slip," said the CI (Chief Inspector). Rao had been arrested for allegedly posing as the girl's grandfather, luring her with promises, and taking her to a mango orchard on the outskirts of Tuni to attempt sexual assault. The 13-year-old was a student at a Gurukul school.
The orchard owner noticed suspicious activity and recorded a video, which exposed the incident. Upon realizing this, Rao fled the scene with the girl on his scooter. Following a complaint from the girl's relatives, police tracked him down and arrested him.Kakinada DSP Srihari Raju stated, "A case has been registered under stringent sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Since the accused abducted the minor girl from the school premises, it qualifies as a kidnapping-like offense. Modi Rally After Karpoori Thakur Family Meet - Bihar NDA Campaign Launch..!
