The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has given its approval for the procurement of defense equipment worth approximately ₹79,000 crore, significantly boosting the capabilities of the Indian armed forces.
The central government sanctioned this massive procurement to strengthen India's military prowess. The approval was granted by the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), which met under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
In a major push towards the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' (self-reliant India) initiative and promoting indigenous defense manufacturing, the DAC accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AON) for the procurement of several systems for the Indian Army. These include the Nag Missile System (Tracked) Mk-II (NAMIS), Ground Based Mobile ELINT System (GBMES), High Mobility Vehicles (HMVs), and Material Handling Cranes.
For the Indian Navy, the procurement includes Landing Platform Docks (LPDs), 30 mm Naval Surface Guns (NSGs), Advanced Light Weight Torpedoes (ALWTs), Electro-Optical Infrared Search and Track Systems, and Smart Ammunition for the 76 mm Super Rapid Gun Mounts.
