The original post, related to the Diwali festival, allegedly called Indians "braindead" and criticized Diwali celebrations abroad as "retarded garbage." Moitra's reply, which simply stated "I agree," was screenshotted and quickly circulated across social media platforms, sparking intense outrage.

The Lok Sabha member later issued a clarification, stating that she had "accidentally commented" on the heavily trolled X post. She posted a clarification tweet explaining that her reply was a mistake.
