Eight people were killed and ten others were injured after a jeep carrying 18 passengers plummeted approximately 700 feet into a gorge in the Karnali Province of Nepal, police reported on Saturday.
The tragic accident occurred late Friday night (October 24, 2025) in the Jharmara area of Bafikot, Rukum West district, located about 500 km west of Kathmandu. The jeep was reportedly traveling from Khalanga in Musikot to the Sallikadi area of Athbiskot Municipality.
Police stated that preliminary investigations suggest overspeeding was the cause of the fatal crash. The deceased were aged between 15 and 30 years old. The ten injured passengers are currently receiving treatment at the Rukum District Hospital in Sally.
