Shivamogga: As the Diwali festival unfolds, several districts across the state are witnessing tragic mishaps in age-old bull-taming events. In these high-energy competitions, young men chase and prod the bulls, aiming to outmaneuver them; getting caught in the bull's path spells an instant "finish" for the participant. However, recent events have turned deadly, with reports of fatalities alongside severe injuries highlighting the growing risks.
In a recent bull-taming spectacle in Balligavi village, Shivamogga district, former Shikarpur MLA Mahalingappa suffered injuries while spectating. He had arrived to watch the event and was standing near a house gate, engrossed in the action, when a white-gray bull suddenly charged at him. The aggressive animal gored him twice with its horns, hoisted him airborne, and flung him forcefully to the ground.
Mere moments later, the bull bolted from the scene. Fortunately, Mahalingappa escaped with only minor injuries. He was promptly rushed to a hospital for treatment and has since recovered, averting a life-threatening situation.The dramatic incident was captured on CCTV footage and by locals using their mobile phones, quickly going viral across social media platforms. The video shows enthusiastic youths and boys relentlessly pursuing the bull, clapping and taunting it to provoke a reaction while darting around in the chaos.
