The suicide of a doctor in Maharashtra, who left behind a message on her palm, has escalated into a major political controversy. Rahul Gandhi, the Congress Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition, issued a statement on his 'X' account, condemning the incident and calling it an "institutional murder," while also alleging that the BJP is shielding the culprits.
In his post on 'X', he stated that the female doctor in Satara, Maharashtra, driven to despair by rape and harassment, became a victim of a corrupt system and harassment by officials in positions of power. He called the tragedy one that should "stir the conscience of any civilized society."
"Government officials, who are supposed to protect the public, stood by the criminals and committed a heinous crime against her," Gandhi wrote. "This is an institutional murder in the name of suicide. Who can one expect justice from when power acts as a shield for the criminals?" He added that the death of Dr. Sampada (the deceased doctor) "exposes the inhuman and insensitive face of the BJP government."
