The Supreme Court will take up the bail applications of nine accused, including student leader and social activist Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, in the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) case related to the 2020 Delhi riots on Monday (October 27).
The riots, which resulted in the deaths of 53 people, took place against the backdrop of protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and have been described as 'conspiratorial violence'. The bail applications challenge the denial of bail by the Delhi High Court.
The Delhi High Court had rejected the bail pleas of nine individuals, including Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, Gulfisha Fatima, and Meeran Haider, on September 2. All those accused under the stringent UAPA have been incarcerated since September 2020. Fujifilm Instax Square SQ1 Camera - Chalk White
