Shoe-Throwing Incident on CJI: What is the Real Reason the Supreme Court Refused to Take Action?

The Supreme Court has now decided against pursuing contempt of court action against lawyer Rakesh Kishore, who attempted to throw a shoe at CJI B.R. Gavai during the hearing of the Vishnu idol case on October 6. The Supreme Court stated that proceeding with the action would give the incident unnecessary importance.

The Supreme Court has decided to drop the contempt of court proceedings against lawyer Rakesh Kishore, who attempted to throw a shoe at the Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai.

In a statement released on Monday, the Supreme Court informed that CJI Gavai himself refused to proceed with the contempt action in this matter. The attempt by lawyer Rakesh Kishore to throw a shoe at the CJI occurred during the hearing of the Vishnu idol case on October 6. A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi heard the petition. The Court observed that shouting slogans and attempting to throw a shoe in the courtroom are clear cases of contempt of court.
