A post made by the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) promoting Wayanad, a tourist destination in neighboring Kerala, has ignited a political controversy in Karnataka. The opposition BJP has vehemently criticized the ruling Congress government, accusing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of prioritizing Kerala's tourism over local interests.
The Source of the Dispute:
The controversy stems from a post shared on October 28 by the KSTDC's official 'X' account. The post highlighted the scenic beauty of Wayanad district in Kerala, referring to it as the "beautiful, mist-covered Wayanad."
The BJP alleges that this promotion directly aids Kerala’s tourism industry. Furthermore, the party linked the promotion to political favoritism, noting that Wayanad is the constituency currently represented by Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. BJP's Fierce Criticism:
Leader of the Opposition, R. Ashoka, launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, criticizing him for the KSTDC's action.
In a post on his own 'X' account, Ashoka questioned, "How long must Karnataka tolerate the CM acting like a District Collector and fundraiser for Wayanad? Has Kerala’s Wayanad become your service center instead of Karnataka?"
Ashoka further accused the Chief Minister of neglecting local issues, "Farmers in North Karnataka are reeling from the fear of floods, yet no relief has been provided. Instead of prioritizing Karnataka, you have prioritized Wayanad in Kerala," he charged.
The incident has sparked a verbal war, with the BJP demanding an explanation for the KSTDC's decision to actively promote a destination outside the state. Also Read: Global Jolt: Trump Announces Immediate Resumption of Nuclear Testing After 30 Years!
