Fake Aadhaar–Voter Registration Row: FIR Filed Against NCP MLA Rohit Pawar in Mumbai

Following Rohit Pawar’s demonstration on October 16 exposing how fake Aadhaar cards could be used for bogus voter registrations, Mumbai Police have registered an FIR against unknown persons.

Mumbai Police have registered an FIR against NCP MLA Rohit Pawar after he publicly showcased how fake Aadhaar cards are allegedly being used for illegal voter registrations. Officials confirmed the development on October 30, 2025, stating that the case has been filed against unknown persons involved in the creation and misuse of fraudulent documents.

During a press conference held on October 16, Pawar demonstrated how forged Aadhaar cards — including one generated using the name of former U.S. President Donald Trump — could be created through a website and used to enroll fake voters. BJP’s social media co-convener Dhananjay Wagaskar came across this demonstration on YouTube, which also hinted at the involvement of a BJP functionary.

Taking serious note of the incident, Wagaskar lodged a complaint, claiming that such actions could provoke public unrest, spread hatred, and threaten social harmony. According to the FIR, the complainant alleged that fake identity documents were being created to stir conflicts between communities and manipulate the electoral system.

Based on the complaint, the Cyber Police registered a case on October 28, 2025, against two unidentified individuals under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita dealing with forgery, identity theft, and dissemination of false information, along with relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act. Rohit Pawar had earlier accused the ruling BJP-led Mahayuti alliance of large-scale irregularities in voter registration following last year’s Lok Sabha election setback. He claimed that genuine voters’ names were deliberately deleted while fake voters were added, and that some votes were cast under the names of deceased citizens.
