A Panchayat Development Officer (PDO), Praveen Kumar, who was suspended for taking part in a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) route march in Lingasugur, has received relief from the Karnataka State Administrative Tribunal (KSAT). The tribunal has issued a temporary stay on the state government’s suspension order.

The legal battle was led by the legal team of Bengaluru South BJP MP Tejasvi Surya. Upon reviewing their plea, the tribunal ruled in favor of the PDO, putting the suspension on hold until further orders. Tejasvi Surya said that the suspension order was issued in a one-sided manner. “Our legal team successfully challenged the unfair and arbitrary action taken against PDO Praveen Kumar. This judgment serves as a warning to the state government,” he stated. The controversy erupted in October when Praveen Kumar was seen participating in the RSS route march wearing the organization’s traditional uniform — khaki pants, white shirt, and cap.

The government suspended him on the grounds that a public servant should not take part in activities linked to a particular organization. The case triggered a widespread political debate in Karnataka regarding the participation of government officials in RSS activities and the government’s handling of disciplinary measures.
