Kannada Rajyotsava 2025: Will there be a holiday for banks in the state?

Banks in Karnataka, including Bangalore, will be closed tomorrow (Nov. 01) on account of Kannada Rajyotsava.

Banks across Karnataka, including in Bengaluru, will observe a holiday tomorrow, November 1st, on the occasion of Kannada Rajyotsava. Kannada Rajyotsava is celebrated as a symbol of joy and unity for all those who speak the Kannada language a day to honour the language and its beautiful linguistic flow.

The bank holiday is official: according to the official holiday schedule released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), November 1st has been declared a General Holiday for all banking institutions throughout the state. Historical Significance and Celebrations -

The day commemorates the formation of the Karnataka state in 1956, when all Kannada-speaking regions in South India were merged under the States Reorganisation Act. This celebration is a remembrance of the unity of Kannadigas, the state's rich heritage, and its glorious culture.

The region, formerly known as Mysore State, was officially renamed Karnataka on this same day in 1973.

The Karnataka State Government has declared November 1st a Public Holiday. Along with the celebratory events, the state also bestows the prestigious Rajyotsava Awards upon distinguished individuals who have served the state across various sectors, particularly culture.
