Kalaburagi: On the very day the 70th Kannada Rajyotsava is being celebrated in the state, members of the Kalyana Karnataka Separate State Awareness Committee are staging a protest in Kalaburagi demanding a separate state.

Along with the protest, they also hoisted a separate flag. Upon learning of the incident, the police immediately arrived at the scene and arrested more than 20 activists. The protesters argue that the Central and State Governments are repeatedly committing injustice in providing facilities and benefits to the Kalyana Karnataka region, and therefore, the Kalyana Karnataka region should be declared a separate state.

For several years, various protests and satyagrahas have been taking place demanding the separation of Kalyana Karnataka from Karnataka to form a new state. However, staging this protest today, while the entire state is celebrating Kannada Rajyotsava, has become a target of many people's anger.
