New Delhi: The Delhi Consumer Court has taken strict action against the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) for providing poor quality, worm-infested food to a passenger traveling on a train. The court has ordered IRCTC to pay a compensation of ₹25,000 to the affected passenger.
Case Background
During the train journey, a passenger purchased a meal from IRCTC. However, after noticing worms in the food and consuming it, the passenger became severely ill. Due to this deficiency in service, the passenger approached the Consumer Court seeking justice for the inconvenience and health issues they faced.
Protection of Consumer Rights
After thoroughly examining the case, the court upheld the lapse in IRCTC's service, ruling it a violation of consumer rights. Consequently, the court announced a compensation amount of ₹25,000. The court emphasized that providing quality food is a fundamental responsibility of the service provider.
