Authorities have appealed to the public to only go outdoors if necessary and to use public transport. It is also advised that wearing N-95 masks is best to protect against pollution.

New Delhi: The Air Quality Index (AQI) of the national capital, Delhi, continues to remain at a severely poor level. It has been reported that for the third consecutive day, Delhi's AQI measurement has stayed stable in the 'Very Poor' category, reaching 309 on Wednesday.

Key Highlights:

* For the past few days, the Delhi atmosphere has been shrouded in a thick blanket of Smog. The pollution level remains in the dangerous zone.

* Health experts have warned that this level of pollution can have severe effects even on healthy individuals. The possibility of increased respiratory problems is particularly high for those with lung diseases, children, and the elderly.

* An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered 'Good', but a measurement between 301 and 400 falls into the 'Very Poor' category. This reading has caused serious concern among the public.

* To control the increasing pollution, the government has implemented measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). Discussions are also underway regarding the prohibition of construction activities, restrictions on the use of diesel generators, and the potential implementation of the Odd-Even scheme if necessary.
