Thousands of Indian students dreaming of higher education in Canada have faced a major setback. According to a recent report, three out of four (75%) of Canadian student visa (Study Permit) applications in the month of August were rejected. This is a significant increase in the rejection rate compared to previous months.
What are the Reasons for the Increase in Visa Rejections?
Experts analyze that the tightening of the Canadian government's immigration policy is the main reason for this high rejection rate:
Due to the surge in international students in Canada, there has been immense pressure on housing and infrastructure. To control this, the government has imposed a limit (Cap) on the number of student visas.
The Canadian government has raised the minimum amount of funds (Minimum Fund Requirement) students need to show to cover their living and study expenses. This has made it difficult for many students to provide the necessary financial documentation.
Rejections are also occurring because immigration officers are not convinced that the student is genuinely entering for a temporary purpose (i.e., with the intention of returning home after completing their studies).
Impact on Indian Students
This sudden and high rejection rate has created confusion and anxiety among thousands of Indian students who were preparing to study in Canada. Many who had paid tuition fees to educational institutions and were ready for travel are now stuck in uncertainty.
The Canadian government claims these measures are being taken to ensure the safety of students and maintain an environment of quality education.
