Prakash Raj Fires Up at Kerala Awards Stage: Mammootty National Award Controversy Reignited!

Prakash Raj, who served as the jury chairman for the 55th Kerala State Film Awards, made a serious allegation that national film awards have been "compromised." He stated that Mammootty has been overlooked multiple times despite being deserving, praised the fairness of the Kerala awards, and sparked fresh debate in the film world.

On November 03, 2025, Prakash Raj officiated as the jury chairman for the 55th Kerala State Film Awards. During the event, he made significant remarks about the awards and his responsibilities.

On Monday evening, the winners of the 55th Kerala State Film Awards were announced. This year, Manjummel Boys and Bramayugam won multiple awards, making a strong impact. Actor Prakash Raj served as the jury chairman for these awards.

Prakash Raj attended the press conference organized to discuss the winners and the awards. During this, actor-politician Prakash Raj expressed his dissatisfaction with the National Film Awards.

At the event, Prakash Raj was asked about his experience as a jury member for the Kerala State Film Awards and the possibility of Mammootty receiving a National Film Award. "I have no hesitation in saying that the National Film Awards have been compromised," he replied directly.Titan Smart 3 Premium Smart Watch|1.96" Super AMOLED Display with 410x502 Pixel Resolution|SingleSync BT Calling|NitroFast Charging|110+ Sports Modes|200+ Watchfaces|Upto 7 Days Battery (Wine Red)

He continued, "I am very happy to be the chairman of the Kerala jury because when they called me, they said they needed an experienced outsider. They said, 'We won’t interfere, and you can make the decisions yourself.'"

"That doesn’t happen with the national awards, and we are seeing it. Files and piles decide the awards! With such a jury and such a national government... they say Mammootty is not eligible," Prakash Raj vented his frustration.Pavitra Gowda Back at Supreme Court Doors... Mammootty has previously won the National Award for Best Actor three times for his performances in Mathilukal, Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, Ponthan Mada, Vidheyan, and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.

For years, fans have complained that Mammootty has been ignored by the jury despite being deserving on multiple occasions. This year’s Kerala State Award for Bramayugam marks his seventh win in this category — more than any other actor.

Mohanlal and Urvashi both have six wins each in the same category. The survival drama Manjummel Boys won the Best Film award at the Kerala State Film Awards, while Chidambaram received the Best Director award.
