Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, a 65-year-old woman, Shrilakshmi, was brutally strangled to death inside her home near New Millennium School Road in Uttarahalli. Police suspect the motive was robbery, as her mangalsutra was missing from her neck. The tragedy unfolded on November 4. Shrilakshmi's husband, Ashwattha Narayana, left for work as usual around 9:30 AM.
When he called home at 2:15 PM, there was no response. Despite several attempts throughout the evening, his calls went unanswered, raising alarm. Around 5:30 PM, a worried Ashwattha contacted their tenant, Phaniraj, who was outside at the time, and requested him to check on his wife. Phaniraj assured him he would inform his own wife to visit the house and investigate. By 6:00 PM, Phaniraj called back with devastating news: "Your wife Shrilakshmi is lying on the floor, and it looks like she's stopped breathing." Rushing home immediately, Ashwattha found Shrilakshmi collapsed on the ground. He gently moved her to the bed and examined her, only to confirm the worst—she was lifeless.
A closer inspection revealed deep injuries: a wound on the right side of her neck and another on her heel, along with scratches on her face. These marks strongly indicate she was strangled after putting up a fierce struggle against her attacker(s). Most tellingly, the gold mangalsutra she always wore was nowhere to be found.
Investigators believe the perpetrators were likely acquaintances who gained entry into the home under false pretenses, overpowered Shrilakshmi, killed her, and fled with the jewelry. The signs of resistance in the wounds corroborate this theory. Ashwattha Narayana lodged a complaint at the Subramanyapura Police Station, prompting authorities to register a case.
