India is preparing for a massive nationwide event today, November 7th, to mark the 150th anniversary of the iconic national song, Vande Mataram. Mass singing events are scheduled to take place at 150 prominent locations across the country, with the main ceremony in Delhi set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Commemoration Details -
Main Event: The central function will be held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Delhi, and Prime Minister Modi is expected to inaugurate the grand commemoration.
Widespread Participation: The ruling BJP has confirmed that the collective singing event will take place at party offices across the nation. The Union Cabinet has endorsed the initiative, with expectations high that the Prime Minister will personally participate.
Historical Significance: The song, composed by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1875, was the rallying cry of the freedom movement and became the mantra of the independence struggle in the early 20th century. The BJP National General Secretary, Tarun Chugh, announced that various programs will be organized nationwide until the end of the month, with the highlight being the mass singing today at 150 locations.
Memorial Sites - The mass singing will take place at several sites dedicated to India's freedom fighters, including - The Kargil War Memorial, Swaraj Ashram in Odisha, Cellular Jail in Andaman and Nicobar, Shaheed Smarak Park in Agra, Namo Ghat in Varanasi, The site where Rani Lakshmibai was martyred.
