The Karnataka State Government has decided to make a key change in the food kits distributed under the flagship 'Annabhagya' scheme, one of the state's five guarantee programs. Henceforth, Tur Dal (split pigeon pea) will be distributed instead of Moong Dal (green gram) in the Indira Food Kits.
This ambitious scheme aims to make Karnataka a hunger-free state by providing essential food items to ration card holding families.
Reasoning Behind the Change Law Minister H. K. Patil announced the cabinet's decision, stating that the change was made with two primary objectives:
Support Local Farmers: To protect the interests and provide support to Tur Dal growers within the state.
Enhanced Nutrition: To provide ration card beneficiaries with a more protein-rich and nutritious pulse.
The government confirmed that this change will be implemented without incurring any significant additional financial burden on the state.
The Tur Dal will be purchased and distributed using the same cost allocation previously earmarked for Moong Dal. OnePlus Nord CE5 | Massive 7100mAh Battery | MediaTek Dimensity 8350 Apex | Powered by OnePlus AI | 8GB + 128GB | Nexus Blue
Distribution Quantity -
The quantity of Tur Dal distributed will be dependent on the number of members in a family:
Family Size | Quantity of Tur Dal Distributed |
1 to 2 members | ¼ kg (250 grams) |
3 to 4 members | ½ kg (500 grams) |
5 or more members | ¾ kg (750 grams) |
This move is expected to benefit both the state's farming community and the general public receiving essential supplies under the Annabhagya scheme. Also Read: Kumaraswamy lashes out over Bidadi Township – “Don’t give even an inch of land” – assurance to farmers!
