The death of Padma Shri awardee Salumarada Thimmakka has left Karnataka in shock. By planting hundreds of banyan trees, she created a green culture and dedicated her entire life to environmental conservation. The news that Karnataka's pride, the environmental activist and Padma awardee 'Tree Mother' Salumarada Thimmakka has left this world emerged on November 14, 2025, spreading waves of sorrow across the state. She had been suffering from ill health and was receiving treatment at Apollo Hospital in Jayanagar, Bengaluru, since November 2. It is reported that she breathed her last this morning amid a deteriorating health condition.

The name Salumarada Thimmakka immediately evokes an extraordinary love for the environment. Amid the hardships, poverty, and social obstacles of her life, she made planting trees the goal of her existence. Her environmental service earned her national recognition. Despite receiving numerous awards, including the Padma Shri, Thimmakka's simplicity and bond with soil and trees never diminished.
