Bengaluru: BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, representing Bengaluru South, who had previously voiced strong opposition to Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar's tunnel road project, has now fiercely opposed the state government's plan to extend Namma Metro all the way to Tumakuru. He expressed his outrage, stating that such ideas only come to the government in order to favour the real estate sector. Surya asserted that the Metro system is specifically intended to reduce traffic congestion within urban areas and is unsuitable for inter-district travel.
Speaking to the media after the inauguration of the Kadalekai Parishe (Groundnut Fair) in Basavanagudi, the MP said, "The Metro should not be extended to Tumakuru under any circumstances. The government lacks the basic understanding of where and how projects should be implemented.
The Metro is meant to reduce urban traffic. Tumakuru needs development, but for that, they can use systems like RRTS (Regional Rapid Transit System), as seen in other states," he suggested.
