NEW DELHI – The severity of air pollution in the National Capital Region (NCR) has been starkly highlighted after a prominent Bengaluru-based tech entrepreneur was forced to cancel meetings and immediately return home due to acute health issues triggered by the toxic air.
The individual, identified as Manu Kumar Jain, the former Global Vice President of Xiaomi and former Head of Xiaomi India, shared his distressing experience on social media platform X , underscoring the deteriorating public health crisis in Delhi.
Acute Symptoms Force Early Departure -
Jain, who had travelled to Delhi for business, developed severe symptoms just hours after his arrival. In his post, Jain detailed experiencing burning sensations in his eyes and throat, along with difficulty in breathing. Due to the rapid onset of illness and the unbearable environment, Jain decided that his health was paramount. He abruptly cancelled his scheduled business meetings and booked an immediate flight back. Expressing his disappointment, Jain stated that while he loves the city, the current situation made it impossible for him to stay. A Call for Collective Responsibility -
Beyond sharing his personal ordeal, Manu Kumar Jain used the incident as a platform to call for collective action on the environmental issue.
"I love this city, but I won't blame anyone for the current situation. We are all responsible for this," he wrote on X. "Let us work towards getting rid of this [pollution] and ensure that our children get clean air in the coming days." Jain's experience serves as a clear illustration of how Delhi's severely poor Air Quality Index (AQI) is now directly impacting even short-term visitors, creating a major barrier for business and travel in the national capital.
