38-year-old Sasikala Narra from Vijayawada and her six-year-old son Anish Narra were stabbed to death in their New Jersey apartment in 2017.

Who is the Accused?

US authorities have now filed a charge sheet against Indian national Nazeer Hameed in this double murder case. Nazeer Hameed had reportedly fled to India (Chennai) six months after the murders.

Key Evidence: DNA Match

Nazeer Hameed was a colleague of the deceased Sasikala's husband at a company in New Jersey and lived in the same apartment complex.Following the incident, investigators learned that a blood droplet recovered from the crime scene did not belong to either Sasikala or her husband, Hanu Narra. After Hameed, who was a person of interest, denied the request to provide a DNA sample, investigators obtained a court order to seize his company-issued laptop from the multinational company where he was working in India.

The laptop was sent to the US in September 2024. Finally, the DNA sample obtained from the laptop completely matched the DNA of the blood droplet found at the crime scene.

Demand for Extradition

Currently, the Burlington County Prosecutor in New Jersey has urged the governments of India and the US to extradite Nazeer Hameed to the US. They have emphasized that the extradition process should take place without delay. It was also reported that Nazeer Hameed was previously accused of stalking Sasikala's husband, Hanu Narra. The exact motive for the killings is still unclear.
