Play Meets Patriotism: The 'Cubs & Bulbuls' - Building Future Leaders

The Bharath Scouts and Guides youth movement, which guides children toward discipline, cooperation, environmental conservation, patriotism, service-mindedness, and personality development along with play, helps them grow into responsible citizens of tomorrow. With the motto ‘Do Your Best,’ it instills confidence and a strong mindset in children.

In a world increasingly focused on early skill development, the Bharat Scouts and Guides is quietly laying the foundation for responsible citizenship through its junior wing: Cubs and Bulbuls. This unique program ensures that children are ready for both play and discipline ’Aatakku Sai, Shistigu Jai!’ (Ready for play, hailing discipline!).

The Cubs and Bulbuls program serves as the inaugural stage of training offered by BSG, providing a crucial blend of fun and learning outside the traditional classroom.

The Foundation of Citizen Duty -

Designed for young children between the ages of 5 and 10 years (typically Grades 1 to 5), the program focuses on instilling a sense of 'Citizen Duty' early on.

Cubs is the dedicated training wing for boys.

Bulbuls is the dedicated training wing for girls.

Through a series of engaging activities, children are taught core life skills essential for personal and societal growth.

Core Curriculum and Values

The training incorporates a variety of engaging activities, from games and arts to community tasks, focusing on:

  • Discipline and Order: Learning to stand, walk, and act in line, fostering respect for routine.

  • Teamwork and Cooperation: Encouraging joint work and mutual assistance.

  • Environmental Responsibility: Training in basic nature and environmental protection.

  • Character Development: Building self-confidence, leadership, and a service mentality through play.

A central element of the program is the commitment made by the children during their Promise (Oath) ceremony:

“I promise to do my best, to do my duty to God and my country, to keep the Cub/Bulbul law, and to do a good turn every day.”

Recognition and Progression

The Cubs and Bulbuls journey is structured through several achievement levels, encouraging steady learning and growth:

Pravesh: The introductory examination.

Pratham Charan (1st Star): Certification in basic skills training.

Dwitiya Charan (2nd Star): Recognition for advanced learning.

Heerak / Golden Arrow Award: Considered a special achievement, marking exemplary performance.

The philosophy behind the program is encapsulated in its motto: "Do your best."

Building a Strong Future

The training received in this junior wing is fundamental, serving as a robust base for the senior Scouts & Guides level (Grades 6th–12th). It actively helps children develop self-confidence and leadership skills while promoting discipline and social service.

Ultimately, the Cubs and Bulbuls program is a holistic package a vibrant combination of play, education, discipline, service, and personality construction preparing India’s youngest citizens to be compassionate, disciplined, and capable adults.
